CANTON SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT CALLS 2-PERCENT TAX LEVY CAP A “MISNOMER”--Bill Gregory explained for the Board of Education Thursday why Canton has a projected maximum allowable levy hike of 4.69 percent for 2012-2013. He says the 2-percent state cap is a base figure, with a formula of eight elements calculated in to get the final figure to include growth of the tax base and the increase of state employee retirement system contributions. A super-majority of school district voters would have to say yes if the Board chooses to send it a spending plan that goes over the max. Canton Central faces a 2.5-million-dollar budget gap for next year.
