POTSDAM TRUSTEES' HEARING ON CDBG FOR HOTEL PROJECT LASTS LESS THAN 10 MINUTES—The Board and Village staff saw no members of the public Monday except the developer and 99 News, in a public hearing on a Community Development Block Grant application to the state for 135-thousand-dollars in federal HUD money toward equipment, furniture, and fixtures at a proposed 5.2-million-dollar hotel project by investors G2G on the Sandstone Drive Redevelopment Area, the former Potsdam Feed and Coal property. Planning and Development Director Fred Hanss explained the funding stream stipulates federally-mandated wage rates during construction, and quotas for employing low-to-moderate income persons if and when it opens and for many years afterward. A hotel has been a long-term goal in the Village's comprehensive planning documents for over a decade. G2G is competing with another project in the Potsdam Commerce Park on Outer Elm Street, the only other parcel in the village that has the appropriate zoning. The Board is expected to vote on the G2G CDBG application in the near future
