COST OF COUNTY TRAIL COORDINATOR QUESTIONED—St. Lawrence County Legislators voted 11-4 Monday in favor of hiring Travel Unlimited, owned by county Snowmobile Association official Deb Christy, to be the coordinator for the system until the end of the year at a cost of just over 41-thousand-dollars. Legislators in favor said Christy is uniquely qualified, and the multi-use recreational trail will be an economic development boon. Madrid legislator Kevin Acres said he supports the trail as a wise use of natural resources but the cost is, in his words “largesse on our part,” and that Christy's duties were not clearly spelled out. Fowler legislator Alex Mackinnon says the responsibilities are clearly stated in the statement of need for the position.
