ARREST EXPECTED SOON IN POTSDAM THEFT CASE—Police Chief Kevin Bates told Trustees Monday their investigation of a report of checks taken from Backstreets Tavern earlier this summer led his department to collaborate with the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department; their probe connected the Potsdam check case with a vehicle larceny in the Ogdensburg area. Bates says a suspect in the case confessed after questioning last week. About 7-thousand-dollars in stolen checks were cashed at Community Bank branches throughout St. Lawrence County.
