IRONWORKERS PROTEST AT ALCOA—Local 440, which has a large membership base on Akwesasne, is picketing the aluminum plant in Massena over the use of non-440 workers in the reconstruction of the West cast-house damaged in a March fire. Business Manager Robert Cole told us the compensation package a Local 440 member makes is roughly 47 dollars an hour including benefits, that could be spent at local businesses instead of being sent to Texas, where most of the workers being employed on the project come from.
