PLANNER SAYS FORMER AUTO DEALERSHIP NOT A GOOD SPOT FOR A DAYCARE CENTER—The Potsdam Village Planning Board had a discussion this week about the possible new location of Building Blocks Daycare. News arose Thursday the daycare is looking at renting the vacant rear building at the Snell Office Complex property on Route 56 North, and has an application before the Town of Potsdam Planning Board. Village Planning Board Chair Ted Prahl said Thursday “it's all over town that Building Blocks should use the 'old Honda garage'”. Staff Planning and Development Director Fred Hanss says he did some research to that end, by speaking with the realtor handling the former Dealmaker location on Maple Street. Hanss says the realtor was vague about either a sale or rental price, only that it was “negotiable,” and that the former dealership would need extensive work to make it viable. In any event, Building Blocks must leave Potsdam Central School property in May, 2013 when its lease expires. ALSO BEFORE THE VILLAGE PLANNERS THIS WEEK—The Planning Board gave clearance for Sugar Shack Bakery to co-locate with “Billy's Deli” in the former Tardelli's Restaurant building on Outer Market Street. The planners also issued a permit for the sign on that property.
