BRASHER TOWN SUPERVISOR JAMES DAWSON SAYS “YOU CAN'T LEGISLATE STUPID” WHEN DEALING WITH UNSAFE RESIDENCES—The Town Council voted this week to give Code Enforcement the authority to start eviction proceedings if a residence is occupied and not code-compliant. This, in response to a mobile home fire on County Route 55 earlier in the week. Dawson says the Soulia family, which, ironically lost family in a mobile home fire a few years ago, was running extension cords from the neighbors to power the residence; the residence had no water or septic hook-up, was not secured properly and had many other issues. Dawson says the family allegedly lied to code enforcement when asked if they were living in the trailer. The fire apparently started when the mother poured fuel into a lit kerosene heater.
